Give occasional things a place.
Some belongings are worth keeping even when they are not in daily use. Camping equipment, decorations and spare household items can be grouped together so you can reclaim cupboards at home without losing track of what you own.
Start with a simple sort.
Group belongings by the season or activity they belong to. Review what you actually use, then make a short inventory of the things you choose to keep. A numbered-box system lets you find a particular item without opening every carton.
Prepare before you pack.
Outdoor equipment should be clean and fully dry. Follow care instructions for tents, fabrics and specialist equipment. Remove batteries where the manufacturer recommends it, and check the location’s permitted-items policy before bringing fuels, chemicals or other restricted materials.
Think in useful footprints.
Measure the longest or widest item, then consider the boxes around it. Do not assume everything can be stacked safely. Leave space to reach the things you will retrieve next and ask the team about actual unit dimensions, entry clearances and conditions.
Rotate with the calendar.
Put the next season’s belongings at the front. When you collect them, bring back the items you will not need for a while and update your inventory. Review the arrangement regularly so the space stays useful rather than becoming a place where things disappear.
